Odisha Govt Extends Education Aid to HIV‑Affected Students
The Odisha government has announced financial assistance for HIV‑affected students pursuing higher education.
The initiative, coordinated by the Odisha State AIDS Control Society (OSACS) and the Higher Education Department, will provide annual support of ₹20,000 under the Gopabandhu Sikhya Sahayata Yojana (GSSY).
The scheme covers students living with HIV as well as those whose parents are affected.
The aid is intended to ease expenses related to study materials, transportation, and other academic needs.
To ensure effective implementation, OSACS service centres and partner organisations will expand outreach at the district level.
Red Ribbon Clubs (RRCs) in colleges will also play a role in spreading awareness and fostering a discrimination‑free learning environment.
OSACS project director Dr Akshay Kumar Satpathy and Higher Education director Kaliprasanna Mahapatra are leading the coordination efforts.
The initiative reflects Odisha’s commitment to inclusive education and support for vulnerable groups.
