Odisha Govt Clarifies Pan Masala Ban: Non-Tobacco Products Exempt

Bhubaneswar, Jan 29: The Odisha Health & Family Welfare Department has issued a clarification regarding its earlier notification on the prohibition of certain products.

The department confirmed that Pan Masala without tobacco or nicotine does not fall under the scope of the ban outlined in Notification No. 2065.

The clarification brings relief to manufacturers, traders, and consumers of non-tobacco Pan Masala, ensuring that these products remain available in the market.

Officials emphasised that the prohibition strictly targets products containing harmful substances such as tobacco and nicotine, aligning with the government’s public health priorities.

The communication has also been forwarded to the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, highlighting inter-departmental coordination in implementing the regulation.

By distinguishing between harmful and non-harmful variants, the government aims to strike a balance between safeguarding public health and supporting legitimate commerce.
