Odisha Government Directs Flood Relief Rice Assessment in Four Districts
The Odisha government has instructed Collectors of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Kendrapada districts to urgently assess the requirement for additional relief rice to support flood‑affected communities.
Continuous rainfall and swelling rivers have inundated low‑lying Gram Panchayats, leaving several villages marooned and forcing residents to relocate to safer areas.
Community kitchens and emergency distribution networks have already been activated to provide cooked meals at shelters and rice supplies to cut‑off areas.
Relief rice allocation is guided by state norms: 1 kg per adult per day and 500 grams per child below 12 years per day.
Collectors have been asked to submit detailed assessments, including the estimated number of affected people, duration of relief needs, and consolidated rice requirements in metric tonnes.
The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has been directed to prioritise rice stock releases to ensure timely dispatch.
Relief measures will continue until normalcy is restored and displaced families can safely return home.
