Odisha Floods: Over 2.7 Lakh People Affected, Relief Operations Intensified

Bhubaneswar: The flood situation in Odisha has impacted nearly 2,70,212 people across six districts, with Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Keonjhar under special watch.

Authorities have evacuated 95,206 residents to 226 relief camps, ensuring food, safe drinking water, sanitation, lighting, and medical support.

A total of 118 response teams, including ODRAF, NDRF, Fire Services, and police units, are engaged in rescue operations.

Medical and veterinary teams are providing essential care, with 22 animal health camps set up and over 518 metric tons of cattle feed distributed.

Water levels in major rivers such as Baitarani, Budhabalanga, Subarnarekha, Brahmani, and Jalaka are gradually receding, though some points remain above danger marks.

The State Emergency Operations Centre continues round‑the‑clock monitoring.

An orange warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Balasore districts due to possible heavy rainfall from a Bay of Bengal depression in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Minister Suresh Pujari has directed strict action against Baitarani Power Project Ltd. for allegedly releasing water without prior notice.

So far, 3,794 hectares of farmland have been affected. The government has assured that relief materials, food, and medicines are sufficient, with additional resources on standby
