Odisha DGP Suspends Talchua Marine PS IIC Over Custodial Torture Allegations
Bhubaneswar: In a swift disciplinary move, Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania has suspended Inspector‑in‑Charge (IIC) Sandhyarani Jena of Talchua Marine Police Station, Kendrapara, following serious allegations of custodial torture.
A mother and son accused Jena of subjecting them to third‑degree assault and threats while in police custody.
Acting on the complaint, the DGP cited gross misconduct and dereliction of duty as grounds for suspension.
The order places Jena under the disciplinary control of the Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Cuttack.
Kendrapara Superintendent of Police has been directed to serve the suspension order and prepare draft charges with supporting evidence.
The move underscores Odisha Police leadership’s stance of zero tolerance toward custodial misconduct.
Formal disciplinary proceedings will determine further action against Jena, marking a significant step in reinforcing accountability within the force.
