Odisha CM Majhi Launches Godabarish Mishra Model Primary Schools | Rs 12,000 Cr Education Push
Bhubaneswar, Jan 7: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has laid the foundation stone for the ambitious Godabarish Mishra Model Primary School (GMAPV) scheme, a flagship initiative aimed at transforming primary education across Odisha.
Marking the BJP government’s first anniversary in the state, the project begins with the construction of 835 schools in the first phase, followed by 2,200 in the next.
Over the coming years, 6,800 schools across 6,794 gram panchayats will be converted into model institutions, backed by an investment of nearly Rs 12,000 crore.
Each school will enrol at least 100 students, occupy more than two acres of land, and offer classes from pre-primary to Class VIII.
The facilities will include digital classrooms, STEM learning labs, sports infrastructure, and free transport for children in remote areas.
The scheme aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and emphasises foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN).
School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond highlighted the role of modern teaching methods, community participation, and holistic child development in setting new benchmarks for Odisha’s education system.
Experts believe the initiative will bridge the rural–urban education gap and position Odisha as a leader in educational excellence.
