Odisha CM Expresses Grief Over Tiruvallur Ammonia Gas Leak Tragedy
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep sorrow over the suspected ammonia gas leak at a seafood export unit in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, which claimed the lives of at least six workers and left several others critically ill.
The incident occurred near Periyapalayam, where around 120 workers, including many migrant labourers from Odisha, Assam, and Jharkhand, were present.
Victims suffered severe respiratory distress, dizziness, and bleeding, prompting immediate rescue operations.
Majhi conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
He assured that the Odisha government is closely monitoring the situation and has deputed three senior officials to Tiruvallur to coordinate relief efforts with Tamil Nadu authorities.
The tragedy has once again highlighted safety concerns in industrial units employing migrant workers, raising urgent questions about workplace standards and emergency preparedness.
