Odisha Charts Legal Reform Plan for Speedy Justice

The Odisha government has initiated a comprehensive plan to reform the state’s legal system, aiming to ensure timely and efficient justice delivery.

A one‑day workshop at Lok Seva Bhawan brought together government pleaders, prosecutors, and lawyers to deliberate on effective civil case management in district courts.

Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan underscored speedy justice as a top priority, stressing the role of prosecutors and lawyers in strengthening judicial processes.

He highlighted the importance of integrating technology and artificial intelligence into court procedures.

Justice Shashikant Mishra emphasised the significance of evidence, cross‑examination, and oral arguments in case management, while Advocate General Pitrambar Acharya outlined constitutional provisions and the duties of government lawyers.

Principal Secretary Dr Pabitra Mohan Samal discussed welfare schemes for lawyers and broader public welfare programs.

Technical sessions led by former judges and legal experts covered appeals, drafting, the Civil Procedure Code, and practical problem‑solving through case studies.

The workshop reinforced the message that delivering fair and speedy justice is both a constitutional duty and a moral responsibility, with reforms focusing on modernisation, technology adoption, and lawyer welfare.
