No Flood Threat in Odisha, Hirakud Inflow Under Watch: Water Resources Dept
Bhubaneswar: The Water Resources Department has assured that Odisha faces no immediate flood threat despite rising inflows into Hirakud Dam.
Officials reported that current inflow stands at approximately 1.8 lakh cusecs, with projections indicating a rise to 2.5 lakh cusecs due to rainfall in Chhattisgarh.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and may open 2–3 gates after review.
At Mundali barrage, the flow is around 3.26 lakh cusecs, expected to increase to 4.5 lakh cusecs — still below the flood threshold.
The department emphasised that while inflows are rising, the overall situation remains safe and under control.
This update comes as Odisha continues its monsoon preparedness, ensuring dam safety and flood management protocols are in place.
