Nandankanan Zoo Welcomes Two Asiatic Lion Cubs, Population Rises to 24
Bhubaneswar’s Nandankanan Zoological Park has added two new members to its pride with the birth of Asiatic lion cubs.
Lioness Maya gave birth after mating with lion Shibam, both pure Asiatic lions, born to lioness Rewa.
With these arrivals, the zoo’s lion population has reached 24, marking a significant milestone in its conservation and breeding programme.
Zoo authorities confirmed that Maya and her cubs are healthy, receiving dedicated care and close monitoring to ensure their well‑being.
The successful breeding highlights Nandankanan’s role in safeguarding the endangered Asiatic lion species, reinforcing its reputation as a leading conservation hub in Odisha.
