Minister Reviews Road Restoration Drive Ahead of Dussehra in Bhubaneswar-kataka
Ahead of the festive season, Odisha’s Works Department has intensified efforts to ensure smooth and safe travel in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and kataka.
During a high-level review meeting, Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan assessed the progress of ongoing road repair and maintenance work across key stretches in the region.
Officials informed the meeting that a majority of damaged roads in the twin cities and adjoining areas have already been repaired.
Public representatives and local leaders appreciated the pace of the restoration work undertaken by the department.
The minister directed engineers and officials to complete all pending repair work within the next two days, ensuring that commuters do not face inconvenience during the upcoming Dussehra celebrations.
He also stressed the need for adopting modern technologies and improved construction practices in future projects to enhance road durability and quality.
During the review, Works Department Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh expressed concern over unauthorised road cutting and excavation by various institutions and agencies.
He instructed officials to take stringent action against violations that damage public infrastructure.
The meeting also decided to seek a detailed status report on all Vehicle Under Passes (VUPs) under national highways in the region.
Stakeholders suggested that in future years, pre-festival road repair work should begin earlier and be completed before Ganesh Puja to avoid last-minute disruptions and public inconvenience.
Senior engineers, municipal officials, mayors, MLAs, and representatives from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack participated in the review meeting, which focused on improving urban road infrastructure and ensuring better traffic movement during the festive season.
