Minister Orders Swift Water Clearance Ahead of Rath Yatra
Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra conducted a late‑night inspection of waterlogging‑prone areas in Puri ahead of the annual Rath Yatra.
The Minister visited vulnerable spots near the Red Cross Hospital and adjoining localities, directing officials to intensify dewatering operations and install bypass pipelines to ensure smooth passage for devotees.
He emphasised the need for dry, motorable roads during the festival and instructed the Puri Municipal Corporation to deploy mobile pumping units and emergency response teams on a 24×7 basis.
Dr Mahapatra also asked officials to prepare a long‑term drainage improvement plan after the festival to permanently address chronic waterlogging issues.
The Housing & Urban Development Department reaffirmed its commitment to providing a clean and safe environment for pilgrims, ensuring that rainfall does not disrupt the grand celebration.
