Milk Jars Used to Smuggle 44 Kg Ganja in Balangir, Three Arrested

Excise officials in Balangir uncovered a novel smuggling tactic when they seized 44 kg of ganja concealed inside milk jars.

The operation, carried out near Kukurkhai Chhak under Deogaon police limits, led to the arrest of three youths from Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh — Mohit Vaishnav, Suraj Mahan, and Raju Bansal.

Acting on a tip‑off, officials intercepted two motorcycles disguised as milk delivery vehicles. Upon inspection, they discovered four milk jars packed with contraband worth over Rs 4 lakh.

Investigators also recovered 10 number plates from different districts, allegedly used to disguise vehicles during interstate trafficking.

The accused were produced in court, where their bail plea was rejected, and they were remanded to judicial custody.

Authorities suspect the trio is part of a larger interstate racket and are probing the supply chain and destination of the seized ganja.

Officials described the milk‑jar concealment method as a new challenge for enforcement agencies, underscoring the evolving strategies of traffickers in Odisha and neighbouring states.
