Khurda Man Shot Dead in Begunia, Mining Dispute Suspected

A 42-year-old man, identified as Basudeb Parida alias Tutu, was shot dead in Begunia, Khurda district, late Monday night.

Police suspect the killing was the result of long-standing enmity and disputes linked to mining business activities.

According to eyewitnesses, two armed assailants arrived on a black Bullet motorcycle (OD 33 AO 9986) and fired multiple rounds at close range.

Basudeb sustained fatal injuries to his head and chest. One bullet exited his body while another was recovered at the scene.

Moments before the attack, Basudeb had interacted with local youths. Investigators believe more than two individuals may have been involved, with some monitoring his movements.

Residents rushed to the spot after hearing gunshots, but the attackers fled into a nearby forest, abandoning their motorcycle. Basudeb was taken to Khurda district headquarters hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police have seized the motorcycle and launched an investigation. No arrests or formal complaints had been filed at the time of reporting. Authorities suspect business rivalry and personal disputes as the motive behind the crime.
