Kapilash Tourist Harassment Incident Sparks BJD Fact‑Finding Mission
Public outrage has erupted after a young tourist couple was allegedly harassed and assaulted at Kapilash in Dhenkanal district.
Responding swiftly, BJD president Naveen Patnaik has approved a 10‑member delegation to visit the site and ascertain the facts.
The team, led by senior leader Snehangini Chhuria, includes MLAs and party representatives such as Manorama Mohanty, Sujata Sahu, Sumitra Jena, Dr Geeta Bastia, Minati Behera, Tilotama Choudhury, Nrusingha Sahoo, Abinash Samal, Mahesh Sahoo, and Sudhir Samal.
Their mission is to hold discussions with the Superintendent of Police, submit a memorandum, and evaluate safety measures at tourist and religious sites.
The delegation will prepare a detailed report with recommendations for Naveen Patnaik.
The incident has raised broader concerns about tourist safety in Odisha, especially after similar harassment cases in other states.
The BJD emphasised strict accountability, stronger policing, and enhanced security deployment to ensure safe travel for women, youth, and families across the state.
