Kandhamal Police Smash Illegal Gun Factory, Arrest Key Accused

Kandhamal,  – December 4, 2025: Police in Kandhamal district have dismantled an illegal country-made gun factory operating in Pangapaju village under Kotringia panchayat, Gochhapada police limits.

The raid, conducted under the direct supervision of Superintendent of Police Harish Bisi, led to the arrest of Banchhanidhi Bindhani, who was found manufacturing firearms inside the unit.

Authorities seized a small pistol, gun-making equipment, cutting machines, wooden frames, welding instruments, and other accessories used in firearm production.

Bindhani, who had previously been arrested in 2016 for similar activities, is now under investigation for possible links to criminal networks and illegal trade.

Preliminary findings suggest the weapons were primarily intended for hunting wild animals.

However, given Gochhapada’s reputation as a Maoist-prone area associated with ganja cultivation and mafia networks, police are probing deeper into potential connections with organised crime.

Sadar SDPO Shubhrajit Biswal and Gochhapada IIC Chiranjeevi Biswal assisted in the operation. Police described the bust as a major success in curbing illegal arms activity in the region.
