Jagannath Temple Reforms: Hundi Relocation & Ratna Bhandar Update Set for Sept 23

PURI,  — In a landmark move to enhance the spiritual experience and operational efficiency at the revered Shree Jagannath Temple, the Odisha government has approved two pivotal decisions.

Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, following consultations with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, announced the relocation of the temple’s hundi (donation box), which has long obstructed the queue-based darshan system.

The new placement will be finalised by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) and the Puri District Collector, aiming to streamline pilgrim movement and reduce congestion.

In a parallel development, the Ratna Bhandar subcommittee confirmed that ornament-filled chests will be ceremoniously moved into the temple’s sacred treasury—Ratna Bhandar—on September 23, 2025.

This transfer will be conducted under the watchful eyes of temple officials and a high-level committee to ensure transparency and uphold tradition.

These decisions mark a significant stride in preserving the sanctity of the temple while modernizing its management practices for the benefit of millions of devotees.
