IMD Warns of Thunderstorms in Odisha Till July 12
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning across several districts of Odisha until July 12 as the southwest monsoon remains active over the state.
On July 9, districts including Sundargarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak are under thunderstorm and lightning alerts.
Northern Odisha, particularly Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar, is expected to witness thunderstorms with lightning for the next three days, with rainfall activity continuing for four days.
The IMD has advised residents to avoid sheltering under trees, stay away from open fields and water bodies during lightning, and remain indoors during intense weather activity.
Agricultural experts note that the rainfall will benefit Kharif crops by improving soil moisture, while also providing relief from the prevailing heat.
