Gold Trader Attacked, ₹36 Lakh Looted in Kataka
Kataka witnessed a shocking incident late Sunday night when a woman gold trader, Pinky Gupta, was brutally attacked and robbed of Rs 36 lakh in cash.
The crime occurred around 10–10:30 pm on the Taladanda Canal bridge while Gupta was heading towards the OMP Square bus stop to board a bus to Kolkata for gold purchases.
A gang of six armed miscreants intercepted her scooter, threatened her with sharp weapons, and struck her with an iron rod before snatching the bag containing the cash.
The attackers fled on motorcycles, leaving Gupta injured. She was rescued and rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Her family lodged a complaint at Madhupatna police station. Police have recorded her statement and launched an investigation to trace and arrest the culprits.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of traders carrying large sums of cash in the city.
