Former Odisha Minister Surendranath Naik breathes his last at 93

Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 5: Former BJD Minister Surendranath Naik passed away early Friday morning at his residence in Odisha’s capital city. He was 93 years old and had been battling age-related ailments, according to sources.
Naik, a seven-time MLA from Kakatpur constituency and a native of Puri, served as the chairman of Astarang Panchayat Samiti from 1960 to 1967. Throughout his political career, he held various ministerial portfolios including agriculture, revenue, and education. He was known for his close association with former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik.
Having recently participated in the elections, Naik received a guard of honor at the Odisha Assembly premises. Tributes were paid by Speaker Surama Padhy, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, and Deputy CMs Pravati Parida and KV Singhdeo.
Expressing deep sorrow over Naik’s demise, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi described him as a beloved leader and efficient administrator, highlighting his significant contributions to the state.
Former Chief Minister and BJD President Naveen Patnaik also expressed condolences, praising Naik’s dedication to public service and noting his enduring influence as a politician and community leader.
Naik’s mortal remains will be first taken to Sankha Bhawan, the BJD party headquarters, and then to his hometown in Astarang block for final rites.
