Delhi Metro Seat Dispute Turns Fatal; Former IAS Officer, Son Arrested
New Delhi: A dispute over a seat on the Delhi Metro has resulted in the death of a 48-year-old passenger, leading to the arrest of a former IAS officer and his son, police said.
The deceased, identified as Pawan Sharma, was allegedly involved in an argument over a senior citizen seat during a metro journey.
According to police, the confrontation escalated into a physical altercation involving former IAS officer Sanjay Pratap Singh and his son, advocate Sidharth Singh.
As per the First Information Report (FIR), Sharma was allegedly slapped and pushed during the argument, causing him to fall and suffer serious head injuries.
The incident reportedly occurred at Supreme Court Metro Station in New Delhi.
Metro staff intervened following the altercation and arranged medical assistance for the injured passenger.
Sharma was transported to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following a complaint filed by Sharma’s mother, Durga Sharma, Delhi Police registered a case and arrested the two accused.
The case has been filed under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.
A Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official stated that the individuals involved in the dispute were removed from the train, following which the injured passenger was rushed to hospital while the other party was handed over to the police.
Police officials said they are examining all aspects of the incident, including witness accounts and medical evidence, to determine the exact sequence of events that led to Sharma’s death.
The incident has raised concerns over passenger safety and the need for restraint during public transport disputes, particularly in crowded metro systems where minor disagreements can quickly escalate.
