Deep Depression Over Bay of Bengal to Hit Odisha-Andhra Coast Tonight, IMD Warns

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is set to cross the Odisha-Andhra coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur on the night of September 23.

The system is expected to intensify by evening, bringing very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across southern Odisha districts.

Wind speeds of 55–65 kmph are likely during landfall, with gusts strong enough to damage standing crops, uproot small trees, and disrupt local infrastructure.

Authorities have cautioned against landslides in hilly regions and urged residents to remain alert.

After landfall, the depression will move north-northwest toward Chhattisgarh by September 24, shifting rainfall inland.

This marks another intense spell of monsoon activity for the region, prompting disaster management teams to stay on high alert.
