CM Majhi Orders Direct Salary Cuts for Maintenance Payments

Bhubaneswar: In a decisive move to enforce compliance with court‑ordered maintenance, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed government departments to deduct salaries of employees who fail to pay alimony or child support.

Under the new mechanism, Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) will deduct the specified amount during salary bill preparation and transfer it electronically to the entitled wife or children’s bank accounts.

The directive follows repeated complaints during grievance hearings, where Majhi noted that 2–3 cases of employees ignoring court orders surfaced in each session.

He stressed that neglecting family responsibilities and disregarding judicial directions is unacceptable.

To streamline the process, the government plans to integrate the deduction system into its Human Resources Management System (HRMS), ensuring automation and efficiency.

The initiative aims to safeguard the financial rights of women and children while reinforcing respect for judicial authority.
