CID Arrests Prime Accused in Balianta Mob Assault Case, 13 Held So Far

Bhubaneswar, May 14: The Odisha Crime Branch (CID) has arrested the prime accused in the Balianta mob assault case, marking a major breakthrough in the investigation.

The accused, Chinu alias Ranjit Patra (24), was apprehended on May 7 after evidence confirmed his direct involvement in the brutal attack.

Investigators revealed that Chinu struck the victim fatally on the head with a bamboo stick after the victim was tied with ropes.

Earlier, police had arrested Bunty alias Judhisthira Jena (22) on May 11.

With these arrests, the total number of accused detained has risen to 13, 11 by local police and two by the CID.

The case, registered under sections 103(1)/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, has drawn statewide attention due to its brutality.

The CID confirmed that the arrest was based on substantial evidence and assured that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other suspects involved in the crime.
