Bomb Threats Trigger Security Alert at Odisha Courts

Odisha’s judiciary faced a tense morning after alarming emails warned of explosions at three district courts—Cuttack, Sambalpur, and Deogarh.

The threatening messages, received on Thursday, explicitly mentioned plans to blow up the court complexes, sparking panic among staff, lawyers, and litigants.

Police and anti-bomb squads rushed to the sites, cordoning off the premises and conducting intensive searches. Bomb disposal units and dog squads combed the complexes, but no suspicious items were found.

Authorities advised citizens to stay at a safe distance until the situation stabilised.

Meanwhile, the cyber cell began tracing the origin of the emails, examining IP addresses and technical details to determine whether the threats were mischief or part of a larger conspiracy.

The Director General of Police ordered additional forces to be deployed and assured the public that officers are monitoring the situation closely.

Lawyers’ associations and local residents voiced concern, demanding swift action against those responsible.

Officials noted that similar threats in the past often turned out to be hoaxes, but the latest incident has prompted stricter vigilance across Odisha’s judicial institutions.
