Bolangir Migrant Worker Electrocuted in Gujarat Marble Factory

Bolangir: Tragedy struck Dunguripali village in Gudvella block of Bolangir district after news arrived that Birendra Chhatria, a migrant worker, died in Gujarat.

Birendra was electrocuted while operating machinery at a marble factory in Rajkot.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital but declared dead. Gujarat Police registered a case, conducted a post‑mortem, and arranged for the body to be sent back to Odisha.

The incident has devastated his family. Birendra leaves behind his wife, two sons, and a daughter.

His wife collapsed in grief upon receiving the body, which arrived as she was preparing for Sabitri Brata.

Villagers gathered to mourn and expressed anger that the factory owner sent the body without financial assistance.

They demanded government compensation and highlighted the plight of dadan (migrant) workers from Gudvella block, who often migrate for survival but face unsafe working conditions.

This tragedy underscores Odisha’s migrant labour crisis, where families lose breadwinners while seeking livelihood outside the state.
