Bhubaneswar: Odisha has begun extensive preparations to host the prestigious 19th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference-cum-Exhibition and the 2nd National Urban Conclave, scheduled to be held in Bhubaneswar from October 23 to 25, 2026.
The event is expected to bring together policymakers, urban planners, industry leaders, academics, and mobility experts from across the country.
A high-level review meeting was chaired by Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, who directed all concerned departments to work in close coordination to ensure the successful organisation of the national event.
The conference, being organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in collaboration with Odisha’s Housing and Urban Development Department and the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), will be held under the theme, “Urban Accessibility and Liveability in the Digital Age: Advancing Rail-led Development.”
During the review meeting, the minister emphasised the importance of seamless arrangements covering urban transport, infrastructure, hospitality, cleanliness, security, protocol management, and cultural showcases.
He stressed that the event offers Odisha a unique opportunity to present its urban development achievements and future vision before a national audience.
Representatives from various departments, including Home, Works, Tourism, Handlooms and Handicrafts, Culture, Information and Public Relations, Mission Shakti, and CRUT, participated in the discussions and reviewed preparedness measures.
The conference is expected to attract 1,000 to 1,500 delegates from across India and feature around 51 exhibition stalls showcasing innovations in urban mobility, public transportation, smart infrastructure, and sustainable city development.
Officials said the event will serve as a platform for policy dialogue, knowledge exchange, technology demonstrations, and collaboration between governments, industry stakeholders, and urban development experts.
Dr Mahapatra highlighted that Odisha aims to leave a lasting impression on visitors through efficient event management and the state’s renowned hospitality, reflecting the spirit of “Atithi Devo Bhava.”
With preparations gaining momentum, Bhubaneswar is set to emerge as a national hub for discussions on the future of urban mobility and sustainable city planning.
