Bhubaneswar: Road Rage Sparks Violent Clash, Auto Drivers Lay Siege to Airport Police Station
Bhubaneswar witnessed a dramatic breakdown of law and order on Wednesday after a minor road rage incident spiralled into a violent confrontation outside the Airport Police Station.
The clash began near Store Chhak when a local youth allegedly assaulted an online auto-rickshaw driver over an overtaking dispute.
What started as a heated argument quickly escalated, with both parties rushing to the police station for resolution.
Instead of calming tensions, the situation worsened as local youths and auto drivers clashed again in front of police personnel.
Eyewitnesses reported that both groups wielded dangerous weapons, including swords and iron rods, leaving several injured.
As news spread, more than 200 auto-rickshaw drivers rallied together, parking their vehicles outside the station and demanding immediate arrests of the youths involved.
The protest caused massive traffic congestion around Biju Patnaik International Airport, delaying passengers and disrupting commuter movement.
The drivers accused police of inaction, questioning why officers failed to intervene despite the violence unfolding in broad daylight.
Authorities eventually brought the situation under control and confirmed that an investigation is underway. The incident has raised serious concerns about rising street violence and the effectiveness of policing in Odisha’s capital city.
