Bhubaneswar Airport to Get ₹1,200-Crore Terminal 3 Boost

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has unveiled plans for a new Terminal 3 (T3) at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), Bhubaneswar, with an estimated investment of over Rs 1,200 crore.

The proposal has been submitted to the Union Finance Ministry’s Public Investment Board (PIB) for approval.

Designed to handle 8.6 million passengers annually, T3 will integrate both domestic and international operations under one roof, unlike the current setup where Terminal 1 serves domestic flights, and Terminal 2 handles international traffic.

The new terminal will be constructed on land already available within the airport premises, adjacent to T1.

It will feature six additional aerobridges, modern passenger amenities, and commercial spaces to enhance convenience and efficiency.

BPIA has undergone significant expansion in recent years. In 2013, the old domestic terminal was converted into T2 for international operations, while a new modular T1 was built at a cost of Rs 145 crore.

The proposed T3 marks the next phase of growth, aimed at meeting rising passenger demand and strengthening Odisha’s aviation infrastructure.

Once PIB approval is secured, AAI will initiate the tendering process, paving the way for Bhubaneswar to emerge as a key aviation hub in eastern India.
