Bhadrak Police Encounter: Notorious Criminal Budhia Injured, Arrested With Firearm

Bhadrak, Odisha: A notorious criminal, Kamalakant Das alias Budhia, was injured in a police encounter in Bhadrak district early Tuesday morning.

Acting on a tip-off, Bhadrak Town Police intercepted Budhia near the Charampa malgodown around 5:15 am.

According to officials, Budhia opened fire at the police team, prompting retaliation that left him with a gunshot wound in his right leg.

He was immediately taken into custody and admitted to Bhadrak District Hospital under police guard.

Police seized a country-made firearm and live ammunition from his possession. Budhia’s associate managed to escape on a motorcycle without a registration plate.

Investigations revealed that Budhia, a resident of Tudigadia village in Balasore, has nearly 15 criminal cases registered against him across Bhadrak and Balasore districts.

He is allegedly involved in several high-profile robberies, including a Rs 15 lakh heist near Khaira and a Rs 5 lakh loot in Soro just days ago.

Authorities suspect Budhia has looted crores of rupees over time, often using firearms during crimes. Efforts are underway to trace his absconding associate and verify his involvement in other criminal activities.
