Baleshwar Registers Record Rainfall in July–August 2026
Baleshwar district has recorded an unprecedented 1,168.6 mm of rainfall between July 1 and August 23, 2026, according to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
This marks the highest July–August rainfall in 19 years, surpassing the previous peak of 969.23 mm in 2014.
Comparative figures highlight the scale of this year’s downpour: 805.19 mm in 2022, 730.37 mm in 2009, and several years registering below 600 mm.
With more than a week left in August, the rainfall tally has already set a clear record, raising concerns about flood risks and agricultural impacts across the district.
Officials note that while heavy rainfall has replenished water bodies and boosted groundwater levels, it has also triggered localised flooding in low‑lying areas.
The IMD continues to monitor weather patterns as the monsoon season progresses.
