Balasore Tragedy: Sports Teacher Dies of Electric Shock During Independence Day Preparations

Balasore witnessed a tragic incident on Saturday morning when a sports teacher lost his life due to electrocution while preparing for Independence Day celebrations at Eraj Medium School in Maitapur, Simulia block.

According to reports, around 7:30 AM, teacher Priyabrata Barik (32) came in contact with an 11 kV electric wire while arranging for the flag hoisting.

Despite being rushed to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital, doctors declared him dead.

Two students and another teacher sustained injuries in the accident and were admitted to Simulia Community Health Centre.

Local officials, including the Simulia Tehsildar and police, reached the school to investigate the matter.

Priyabrata, a resident of the Jaleswar area, leaves behind his wife and two children.

The incident has cast a shadow over Independence Day celebrations in the region, raising concerns about safety measures in schools during public events.
