Bakul’s Daan Utsav Reaches 3,000 Children Across Bhubaneswar Slums
Bhubaneswar: Bakul Foundation celebrated Daan Utsav with its flagship “Day of Service” initiative, bringing joy, learning and engagement to nearly 3,000 children across 22 slum clusters in the city.
More than 500 volunteers participated in the large-scale community outreach programme, conducting a variety of educational and recreational activities.
Children took part in storytelling sessions, creative writing, arts and crafts, games and other interactive activities aimed at making learning enjoyable while fostering confidence and creativity.
The programme transformed community spaces into hubs of fun and learning, reflecting the spirit of the annual festival of giving.
A major attraction of the event was the participation of Amitabh Thakur, Additional Director General of Police, who interacted with children at the Bakul Library.
He kept young audiences engrossed with entertaining “chor-police” stories drawn from his experiences in law enforcement and invited them to visit the Commissionerate Police office.
According to organisers, the initiative seeks to cultivate a culture of volunteerism and encourage citizens to contribute their time and skills for social causes.
The annual event also exposes young volunteers to the realities faced by underprivileged communities, helping build empathy and social awareness.
Representatives of Bakul Foundation said the programme not only spreads happiness among children but also inspires volunteers to remain engaged in community service beyond Daan Utsav.
The foundation has been promoting volunteer-driven social initiatives for several years, motivating individuals to create meaningful change through small acts of service.
The event once again demonstrated how collective community action can create memorable experiences for children while strengthening the culture of giving and volunteerism in society.
