Baji Rout Birth Anniversary Celebrated in Odisha | CM Mohan Majhi Pays Tribute
Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Monday celebrated the birth anniversary of legendary child martyr Baji Rout, paying heartfelt tributes to the youngest freedom fighter of India’s independence movement.
Senior state leaders, including Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, joined commemorative events to honour his sacrifice and legacy.
The Chief Minister, along with Speaker Surama Padhy, Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, and other dignitaries, offered floral tributes at the statue of Baji Rout near the State Legislative Assembly in Bhubaneswar.
Recalling the courage and patriotism of the young martyr, the Chief Minister said that Baji Rout’s sacrifice at the age of 12 remains a shining example of bravery and dedication to the nation.
He noted that the young freedom fighter stood against oppression and laid down his life while defending the interests of the people during India’s struggle for independence.
The Chief Minister further stated that the ideals, determination, and selfless service of Baji Rout continue to inspire generations of students and youth across Odisha and the country.
As part of efforts to preserve the martyr’s legacy, the Odisha government has elevated his birth anniversary celebrations to a state-level event in his native village of Nilakanthapur, which has also been developed as a Model Village.
The state government is additionally constructing the Baji Rout Sports Complex in Dhenkanal at an estimated cost of ₹120 crore.
The project aims to commemorate the freedom fighter’s legacy while promoting sports and youth development in the region.
The government reiterated its commitment to honouring the contributions of Odisha’s freedom fighters, martyrs, and cultural icons.
Senior officials from the Information and Public Relations Department were also present during the tribute ceremony.
