₹2 Lakh Compensation, Free Treatment for Students in Accident Emergencies

Bhubaneswar, Sept 4: The Odisha government has rolled out new guidelines to provide swift financial and medical support to school students affected by accidents.

Under the scheme, families of students from Sishu Vatika to Class XII enrolled in government and aided schools, Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs), and Odisha Model Adarsha Vidyalayas (OMAVs) will receive ₹2 lakh ex‑gratia assistance in cases of accidental death or permanent disability.

The guidelines also include transportation aid of up to ₹30,000 for students requiring advanced treatment outside their district and up to ₹10,000 for those hospitalised for more than three days at district headquarters hospitals.

Eligible students will receive free treatment at government hospitals and can also access support under Ayushman Bharat, the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF), and the Red Cross.

To ensure timely relief, the sanctioned amount will be released within 24 hours of approval, with the process involving the Headmaster/Principal, Block Education Officer (BEO), District Education Officer (DEO), and District Collector.

The guidelines specify that the mother will be the first beneficiary, followed by the father, and in their absence, a guardian identified by the District Collector.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding students and supporting families during emergencies.
