Waste-to-Wonder ‘Jungle View’ Draws Crowds at Cuttack’s Alisha Bazaar Durga Puja
A unique blend of environmental awareness and traditional festivities has made the Durga Puja celebration at Alisha Bazaar one of the major attractions in Cuttack this year.
The puja committee has created a striking jungle-themed installation, aptly named “Jungle View,” using discarded materials and recycled waste, delivering a powerful message on conservation and sustainability.
Based on the report by Waste To Wonder: Kataka’s Alisha Bazaar ‘Jungle View’ Steals The Show This Durga Puja.
The innovative setup has been crafted entirely from waste materials, including used oil tins, gunny bags, dry branches, straw, and other discarded items.
The artificial jungle recreates a natural ecosystem and aims to raise awareness about forest conservation, wildlife protection, recycling, and responsible waste management.
At the heart of the attraction stands a majestic idol of Goddess Durga adorned with traditional silver ornaments, creating a captivating contrast between the eco-themed backdrop and the grandeur of the festival.
What makes the project even more special is that it was conceptualised and executed by local youths from Alisha Bazaar without the involvement of professional artists.
Their collective effort has transformed waste into an impressive artistic display that has become a major crowd-puller during the festive season.
Alisha Bazaar is also known for its rich cultural traditions, particularly its beautifully decorated silver-adorned idols and the distinctive custom of offering fish to Goddess Durga.
The locality’s renowned Chandi Medha had earlier earned national recognition when it was showcased at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
By combining creativity, environmental consciousness, and cultural heritage, the ‘Jungle View’ theme has emerged as a shining example of how traditional festivals can promote social messages while preserving local identity.
