Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom Sparks Tamil Nadu Uproar

(OT Webdesk)Vijay Deverakonda’s latest Telugu release, Kingdom, has ignited controversy in Tamil Nadu, where pro-Tamil groups have launched protests over the film’s portrayal of Sri Lankan Tamils.

Demonstrations led by Naam Thamizhar Katchi (NTK) were reported in Madurai and Trichy, with activists accusing the film of distorting historical facts and disrespecting the legacy of LTTE fighters.

NTK cadres demanded a ban, alleging that the film depicts Tamil rebels as “enslaved mountain dwellers.” “They fought for 30 years and died, but are shown as enslaved people.

This is an attempt to twist historical facts,” said NTK’s State Propaganda Secretary Saravanan.

Following pressure from protestors, theatre managers removed promotional banners. Distributors have approached the Madras High Court seeking police protection amid rising tensions.

Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, Kingdom stars Vijay Deverakonda, Satyadev, and Venkatesh. Set in Sri Lanka, the film follows a cop-turned-spy who becomes the saviour of a tribal community.

Despite a strong box office opening, the film has faced criticism for its screenplay and narrative choices.
