Vedanta Aluminium transports over 55 million tonnes of cargo in FY 2025
Bhubaneswar, Aug 12 (UNI) Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, transported over 55 million tonnes of raw materials and finished aluminium products in FY2025.
During the same financial year, Indian Railways moved about 1,617 million tonnes of freight cargo. Vedanta Aluminium’s share represents nearly 4 per cent of that volume, an extraordinary achievement for a private-sector company.
Operating mainly across Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh, the company’s advanced logistics network moves alumina from its captive refinery in Lanjigarh, coal from nearby mines, and high-grade aluminium products for both domestic and global markets.
Vedanta Aluminium has a presence at almost every major port in India and is the largest container cargo exporter from Paradip Port, one of the nation’s biggest ports.
The company exports to over 100 destinations across six continents, reinforcing India’s aspiration to become a global manufacturing and trade hub under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
Vedanta Aluminium CEO Rajiv Kumar said, “With an environment-first approach, we have built one of India’s most advanced and future-ready logistics systems, handling over 55 million tonnes of cargo, with plans to scale up to 80 million tonnes.”
“Our efforts align with the Prime Minister’s Gati Shakti Project as we aim to create a digitally integrated, multi-modal transport and logistics network that boosts connectivity, reduces costs, and improves efficiency across sectors,” he further added.
Chief supply chain officer Deepak Gulati said, “We are proud to be the largest customer of CONCOR (Container Corporation of India), partnering with them to streamline our export logistics.”
He said that over 40 dedicated rakes are currently in operation, with plans to expand this fleet to more than 50, ensuring efficient movement of raw materials.
For in-plant operations, Vedanta Aluminium runs India’s largest fleet of lithium-ion electric forklifts, numbering 75 in total.
