Two arrested from Odisha in Kolkata youth’s hotel murder case
Kolkata, Oct 29 (UNI) The Kolkata Police have made a breakthrough in the murder of a youth in a city hotel here by arresting two suspects from Odisha, official sources said today.
Two days after taking over the probe of the murder of 26-year-old Rahul Lal, the detective department of the homicide wing of Kolkata Police arrested the two suspects — Sashikanta Behera and Santosh Behera — from a hideout in Odisha yesterday.
Sources said the homicide wing of Lalbazar, following some clues and CCTV footage clipping in the murder, arrested the duo and would be brought in to transit remand in the city from Odisha today.
The body of Rahul Lal, a resident of the Picnic Garden in the city, was found dumped inside a box cot in Room 302 of Hotel Al Burj on Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road in central part of the city on October 24.
However, the crime reportedly took place on the night of October 22 as per CCTV footage clipping when three people entered from the main gate and exited only two.
The victim had a criminal record and had served multiple jail terms.
Police investigating the crime said it was a planned murder in which the accused took away their main murder weapon, a bed sheet provided by the hotel, which they used to strangulate him.
Police said they are now certain that the victim was lured to the hotel and murdered. The suspects allegedly smashed a beer bottle on his head to ensure his death.
The arrested duo would be produced before a city court.
