Twin Low-Pressure Systems Could Fuel Cyclonic Storms, Warns IMD

Twin Low-Pressure Systems

( OT WebDesk) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert regarding the formation of two low-pressure systems—one in the Arabian Sea and another in the Bay of Bengal—that may intensify into cyclonic storms in the coming days.

According to IMD forecasts, the Arabian Sea system is expected to form near Karnataka’s coast on May 21, with projections indicating its possible intensification into a depression by May 22. Further escalation into a cyclonic storm remains a strong possibility.

The Bay of Bengal system, meanwhile, is anticipated to develop around May 27, with experts suggesting that its trajectory and impact will become clearer after May 26.

Residents in Odisha, currently facing hot and humid conditions with temperatures hovering between 38-39°C, have been advised to brace for thunderstorms (Kalbaishakhi) until May 23 due to an existing trough line affecting the region.

The IMD has urged coastal communities and authorities to stay vigilant, monitor official updates, and prepare for potentially adverse weather conditions in the coming weeks.
