Truck Driver Dies in Rayagada Fog-Related Accident

Rayagada, Odisha – A tragic accident claimed the life of a truck driver from Uttar Pradesh on Monday morning when his vehicle overturned near Buduni Chhak in Bishamakatak block of Rayagada district.

The truck, loaded with iron materials being transported from Visakhapatnam to Rourkela, skidded off the state highway due to dense fog and overturned. The heavy cargo trapped the driver beneath the vehicle.

Police from Bishamakatak station and Fire Services personnel rushed to the site. Rescue teams worked for hours, using gas cutters to slice through the iron load before recovering the driver’s body.

The operation drew shocked reactions from locals who witnessed the difficult efforts.

Authorities confirmed that the truck was carrying industrial iron materials. The driver’s identity is yet to be established, and police have launched an investigation.

The incident highlights the dangers of poor visibility on Odisha’s highways during winter mornings, particularly in fog-prone districts like Rayagada.

Police have urged heavy vehicle operators to exercise caution while transporting goods in such conditions.

Officials emphasised the importance of driver awareness and preparedness for fog-related risks, while also commending the swift response of rescue teams.

The accident serves as a grim reminder of the hazards posed by dense fog on highways and the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures across the state.
