Thamma Roars at Box Office: Ayushmann & Rashmika’s Horror Comedy Nets Rs 32 Crore on Day 1

Bhubaneswar, Oct 22: Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s horror-comedy Thamma has stormed into cinemas with a thunderous opening, raking in Rs 32 crore worldwide on its first day.

Produced by Maddock Films and directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the film marks one of the strongest Hindi openings of 2025.

According to Maddock Films, Thamma earned Rs 25.11 crore net (Rs 30 crore gross) in India alone, boosted by the Diwali holiday and strong evening show attendance that peaked at 40% occupancy.

Overseas, the film added another Rs 2 crore (approx. $250,000), despite mid-week release challenges in non-Diwali markets.

The film has already outpaced other major 2025 releases like Saiyaara (Rs 30 crore) and surpassed earlier entries in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU) such as Stree (Rs 10 crore), Bhediya (Rs 12 crore), and Munjya (Rs 5 crore).

However, it still trails behind Chhaava (Rs 47 crore) and Stree 2 (Rs 80 crore), the latter holding the record for the biggest Indian horror film opening.

Thamma stars Ayushmann and Rashmika as vampires in love, battling Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s menacing vampire villain. With cameos by Varun Dhawan and Abhishek Banerjee, the film blends humor, VFX, and supernatural thrills, earning praise for its engaging storyline and visual flair.

With strong word-of-mouth and festive momentum, Thamma is poised for a robust weekend run, further cementing MHCU’s growing legacy in Indian cinema.
