Supreme Court to Decide Fate of Odisha DGP Appointment Today
The Supreme Court is set to hear today an application seeking to vacate its interim order in the ongoing dispute over the appointment of Odisha’s next Director General of Police (DGP).
A three‑judge Bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana, will take up the matter at 10:30 AM.
The case stems from the landmark Prakash Singh police reforms judgment, which laid down guidelines for transparent and merit‑based DGP appointments.
During the last hearing on August 18, the Court noted counter-affidavits filed by both the Odisha Government and the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
Interim directions were extended until today, leaving the state’s top police post in limbo.
Former IPS officer Yashovardhan Jha Azad has also sought to intervene, raising concerns about compliance with reform directives.
