Subhadra Sadhana Kendra to Boost Women & Child Development in Odisha
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of the Subhadra Sadhana Kendra at the State Institute for Women & Children (SIWC).
The ambitious project, with an investment of Rs 35.70 crore, will house a 400-seater auditorium, a Toy Museum, and a cafeteria, serving as a hub for capacity building, research, and policy initiatives.
On the same occasion, Parida also inaugurated the Panchatatwa Park, a nature-themed facility designed around the five elements.
The park features an acupressure path and an open-air gym, aimed at promoting wellness among women and children.
The event also marked the launch of the Suposhit Odisha Mission (SOM), a state-wide initiative to combat malnutrition.
Citizens are encouraged to celebrate personal milestones—such as birthdays—by distributing fruits at Anganwadi centres.
A two-day Suposhit workshop was held to train Anganwadi workers, with centres achieving malnutrition-free status to be declared SUPOSHIT and workers publicly recognised.
Additionally, the government announced a revision in uniform costs under the Malati Devi Scheme.
The revised rates include: boys’ uniforms from Rs 100 to Rs 175, girls’ uniforms from Rs 150 to Rs 225, shoes and socks from Rs 100 to Rs 150, and sweaters from Rs 150 to Rs 200. This will benefit 14.76 lakh children across 74,224 centres.
The event concluded with a collective pledge for a “Non-Malnutrition Free Odisha”, symbolizing the state’s commitment to child health and welfare.
