Sophia Firdous Backs Md Moquim, Sparks Talk of New Odisha Political Front
Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: Former legislator Md Moquim demonstrated his political clout in Bhubaneswar during the Odisha Youth Conclave organised by the Moquim Foundation on National Youth Day.
The event, marked by spirited participation, has sparked speculation about the emergence of a new political alternative in the state.
Congress MLA Sophia Firdous, Moquim’s daughter, was the chief guest. In her address, she praised her father’s leadership and urged young people to participate fearlessly in politics.
She emphasised unity and determination as the foundation for building a “new Odisha.”
Moquim himself called for a fresh political alternative, stressing that youth involvement is key to Odisha’s development.
While some invited leaders skipped the event, AISF state president Sanghamitra Jena attended, lending weight to the conclave.
The timing of the gathering—on Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary—added symbolic resonance, fueling speculation that Moquim may be laying the groundwork for a new regional party.
Political observers remain divided: some see this as a warning to established parties, while others question whether Odisha’s political space can accommodate another player.
