SJTA Suspends Khuntia Servitor Over Ritual Delay, Misconduct

Bhubaneswar: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has suspended Khuntia servitor Ramakrushna Khuntia for three months following allegations of misconduct and delaying temple rituals by nearly four hours on February 28.

The delay disrupted the daily rituals and deprived devotees of timely access to Mahaprasad. Complaints also highlighted Ramakrushna’s disrespectful behaviour toward temple officials and staff.

SJTA Chief Administrator Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee reviewed explanations from Ramakrushna, Madhab, and Madhusudan Khuntia, along with staff statements, before issuing the disciplinary order.

  • Ramakrushna Khuntia has been barred from performing temple services during the suspension period and warned of stricter action if misconduct continues.
  • Madhab and Madhusudan Khuntia were conditionally pardoned but sternly cautioned against repeat offences.

Dr Padhee emphasised that while most servitors cooperate with temple administration, disorderly conduct by a few will not be tolerated in the sacred precincts.
