Scrub Typhus Scare in Angul: One Death, Seven Positive Cases Reported

Angul district is facing a health scare after scrub typhus, a mite‑borne disease, claimed one life and infected seven others in Palalahada block.

The disease, spread by bites from tiny, nearly invisible mites, can cause severe complications if left untreated.

Health officials confirmed that a medical team has visited Sanabagdari village to collect blood samples and monitor the situation.

They emphasised that early detection is critical, as timely treatment can prevent organ failure and fatalities.

The outbreak comes during the monsoon season, when scrub typhus cases typically rise.

Farmers and rural residents are particularly vulnerable due to increased exposure in fields and forested areas.

Authorities have urged people to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as fever, rash, or swollen lymph nodes appear.
