Sambalpur University Student Found Dead in Hostel Room

Sambalpur: A pall of gloom descended on Sambalpur University after a second-year Economics student was found dead inside the Brahmaputra Hostel on Tuesday morning.

The deceased, identified as Suraj Kujur, a native of Kutra in Sundargarh district, had been staying alone in Room No. 52.

According to sources, he missed his scheduled examination on Monday, which raised concern among fellow students.

On Tuesday, hostel inmates discovered him hanging in his room and immediately alerted the authorities.

The Burla Police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. Officials confirmed that the body will be sent for a post-mortem once his family arrives.

Preliminary investigation suggests suicide, though the exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy. Police have initiated further inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The tragic news has left students and staff in shock, sparking renewed discussions about the importance of mental health support in educational institutions.

Experts have emphasised the need for counselling services and psychological assistance to prevent such tragedies.
