Sacred Banakalagi Ritual Closes Puri Temple Darshan from 6–10 PM
Puri, Odisha: Devotees visiting Shree Jagannath Temple today will face a temporary suspension of darshan as the sacred Banakalagi ritual is being performed.
The temple administration has announced that darshan will remain closed from 6 PM to 10 PM.
The Banakalagi ritual, conducted after the second Bhogamandap, involves the ceremonial decoration of the deities’ faces with special herbal and natural colours.
Considered highly confidential, the ritual requires the temple to restrict public access during its observance.
Temple authorities have urged devotees to plan their visit accordingly, noting that darshan will resume once the ritual concludes.
This closure is part of the temple’s traditional schedule, ensuring the sanctity and uninterrupted conduct of age‑old practices.
