Rourkela Police Bust Brown Sugar Network, Eight Arrested
Rourkela police dismantled a major brown sugar trafficking network in the Meena Pada area under the Plantsite Police Station during a pre‑dawn raid on Friday.
Acting on the directives of SP Nitesh Wadhwani, three platoons of force were deployed to carry out the operation.
Authorities arrested eight alleged peddlers, including seven women, and seized 220 grams of brown sugar valued at over Rs 1 crore in the illegal market.
Police also recovered Rs 2,70,240 in cash and three mobile phones from the accused.
The crackdown forms part of the state‑wide “Nasha Mukta Odisha” campaign, which aims to curb the narcotics trade and substance abuse.
Meena Pada has been a recurring hotspot for such raids, with multiple seizures reported in recent months.
Officials emphasised that Friday’s action marks another decisive step in Odisha’s ongoing fight against organised drug trafficking.
